HTC phone carrot for Microsoft Office 2010 beta testers

KUALA LUMPUR: Are you interested to test drive the beta version of Microsoft Office 2010? If you are, you can now get yourself a copy at the local Microsoft Office 2010 site.

UP FOR GRABS: Microsoft said it will be giving away one new HTC HD2 Windows Phone every month for the best Office 2010 beta user testimonial.

Together with the launch of the website, Microsoft said it will be giving away one new HTC HD2 Windows Phone every month for the best Office 2010 beta user testimonial. The company added there will also be other gadgets and gifts up for grabs every week.

So far, over 2,000 Malaysians have tried out the beta version, and Microsoft is expecting 5,000 trials prior to the launch, the company said in a statement.

Microsoft Malaysia said that feedback from users have been hugely positive so far, with most saying that Office 2010 increases their productivity by reducing the amount of time needed to do what they want to do.

The Office 2010 beta download initiative is an open invitation to anyone looking to test the product and provide feedback to Microsoft to help shape the final product.

The website also has a list of new features in Office 2010, such as photo and video editing in PowerPoint; fast new data comparison tools in Excel; improved mail and calendar management in Outlook and Click-to-Run technology for faster downloads.

Other features include Office Backstage View, which replaces the file menu across the core Microsoft Office 2010 applications. This is aimed at helping users find commonly-accessed commands when opening or finishing a document, including opening new or existing files, defining document properties, and sharing information.

Office 2010 will continue with the usage of Open XML file formats from Office 2007, where it was first introduced.

Currently, the beta software available for free download includes Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, OneNote, Access, Publisher, InfoPath, SharePoint Workspace, Communicator, Visio 2010 and Project 2010.

Microsoft said Office 2010 is expected to be available in the first half of the year.
